Golfing World According to Dwain Margro:

Where does it all begin for a golfer like me? For starters, on first impressions I don’t look like a golfer or as a matter of fact, a person who would be playing golf? People seem to be able to tell if you are a golfer or not simply by looking at you and they pigeon hole you into a specific type of person just by the way you look. Like when we look at people and mistake them for who they might be or not be, and what they can actually do. I got into the golfing world of playing Tiger Woods on Playstation and watching him on TV. I got to know the ins and outs of golf, and I saw it taken to another level for me personally. Over time I learned more and more about golf by just watching TV and playing Tiger Woods on PIaystation.

I became so entwined in the golfing world that even created a suffix that many of my friends despise; the word “Age”. And it all came from Tiger Woods on Sony Playstation. In the game the commentator said, “that ball is going to be hard to get out of the spin”age” patch.” It was so hilarious at the time, especially after a few drinks in hand, that I added ‘age’ to most words in a sentence, even if that made no sense to anyone. For example; Damian, aka Skillage as he is known to me, and I went out and played at Wanderers Golf club and the green”ages” were damn fast, we had breakfast and the toast’age’ and the egg’ages’, were crap, but luckily the round included breakfast as we wouldn’t of paid any buck”age” for that.

Unexpected costs in Golf

Unexpected costs in Golf

As time is the key in everyone’s world as well, one always has to find the time to play golf. We all ask ourselves, should we be on the course more often or less? Then we ask ourselves if golf is too expensive. Paying for a round on average can cost a member R250 for the golf, halfyway house is another R50 and 19th Hole a further R200 if you grab a chow. So you are always paying close on R500 just for that day out. And that is if you don’t take a golf cart or a caddy. So we should ask ourselves, should be playing golf so often and getting smashed, or should we find balance elsewhere in life?

When I first started playing on the SOS Golf Tour, my 1st round was at Jackal Crack. One of the golf courses we probably wouldn’t consider playing again because it was experience, but it did get me into playing golf once again after a long layoff. Jackal Crack threw up one of many classic moments I have had on Tour when “Stutter Putter” Trevor accused me of playing his ball on the first fairway after he teed his drive into the houses out of bounds, narrowly missing a window. But after that baptism of fire and introduction to the SOS Golf Tour, I playing many more rounds of golf with the guys and got to know and appreciate the things they brought to the game. I was impressed with the long hitters, and felt I would never match these guys with their long drives, “J Bomber”, “Grunt”, “Jimmy” & “Blue Steel”. But eventually I knew that if you just hit that drive well and you can outdrive them by just hitting straight. At times I drive the ball well with the biggest draw you could ever imagine and then without warning the draw is gone and I stand on the tee having aimed far right and think what the heck. But I guess that goes with all my shots, especially on PAR 3’s. I need to sort the draw out and use it to my advantage on certain holes.

Also on my 1st round of playing on tour, we ended up at Grandslam for fines our fines meeting and only 6 others attended that meeting with me. I kind of thought, WOW is this how tame fines really are? Then it hit me, let me wait for another few more rounds and see how it plays out. Damn did I think twice as I saw the fines get more hectic with each round and as everyone started attending, and so everyone started enjoying fines more. That’s because “Marsehole” took his finger out of his asshole, “AWE Bra.

From then on out, I always looked forward to my next round of golf especially with the SOS Tour. I love the classic nickname I got, ‘Panda’, thanks Chip. I hope it was you who gave me that name?? I wasn’t too impressed with the whole racist thing on tour though, JUST KIDDING. Love the fact that we can all joke about everyone being different and how Chip and Marsehole always get the bad end of the stick and it cracks me up all the time. The SOS Tour has been a great success, great seeing new faces and getting to know everyone’s strengths and weakness on Tour. I would still like to fine everyone who has been racist towards me, but that fine will still always go to Marsehole from when you were chairman, “AWE Bra”.

Great idea for harmony in Golf

To Mike, you have summed up what a “Panda” is, the picture you sent on the group chat for those who missed it below sums it all up, “Marsehole” pay attention;)

To sign off, I trust this year will be another exciting year and a funnier than the last one. Keep the force strong and let’s get everyone to come down and play so we have a full field.
