Following the success of the Dallas Challenge at Glenvista Country Club in round 1, the Sultans of Swing Golf Tour moved to the other end of Gauteng to play the fantastic Roodepoort Country Club. The course is neither parkland nor links in its styling, but offers up challenges similar to those you find on both. It is a golfer friendly layout and that was evident by 5 of the 16 players breaking their handicap and Roodepoort dishing up the highest average of Stableford points in Tour history.

It was a dogged fight by several golfers on tour, but it was the enigmatic Andrew Hart, Blue Steel, who stole the show with a blistering 79 off a 14 handicap. His 43 points left him well out in front of the chasing pack and he earned himself his first win in only his second ever SOS Tour game. He was followed, although not closely by Damian Murphy and Andrew “Chip” Robertson in second and third respectively. New comer to the Tour Justin Stoop found the going tough in his first outing, but fared well and earned his place amongst the Tour’s players. Special thanks must go to Christo for helping out, and earning Tarquin a whole bunch of golf related fines.

Andrew Hart – 43 points
Damian Murphy – 39 points
Andrew Robertson – 38 points
Warwick Keet – 37 points
Tarquin Clark – 34 points
Richard Gaugeler – 34 points
Ryan Bernberg – 34 points
Trevor Rebello – 32 points
Grant Moolman – 31 points
Michael Moolman – 31 points
Dwain Margro – 29 points
Nicholas Rebello – 28 points
Justin Stoop – 27 points
Marcel Du Plessis – 26 points
Chad Campbell – 12 points

The new golf fines for the 2013 Sultans of Swing Golf Tour threw up a whole bunch of new hat wearers, with Marcel receiving the Fireman’s hat for the most three putts off the lowest handicap. Three putts dominated the Roodepoort round of the SOS Golf Tour, with only Andrew Hart avoiding the penalty. Three putts have made up 63 of the 213 fines awarded so far in the first 2 rounds, more than 3 times the second most popular fine. The Gandalf hat was awarded to Chad Campbell for a Tour record 11 rings, the Tiara was awarded to Gareth Greensill for missing a round, the shit went to Chad for coming last and the infamous dickhead award went to Mr Hart for breaking 80 with a double figure handicap.

All in all a great time was had; thanks again to the Pocket Caddi team for booking us a round, and for the Keg & Beagle for hosting us for the fines meeting. Next we are off to Modderfontein Golf Club for Round 3. Follow us on Twiiter @sosgolftour or like us on Facebook (SOS Golf Tour) to keep up to date with all the happenings. Good golfing guys!
