Piretti Putters South Africa were kind enough to lend the SOS Golf Tour two of their putters to review for our readers and members. We were able to put the Cottonwood in the bag of our Chairman, as well as in the bag of Grant Moolmn. Here are both their Piretti Cottonwood II reviews and their thought on the product.
Golfer: Grant Moolman
Handicap: 11
Product Type:
Putter
Brand:
Piretti – Cottonwood II Midnight Black
Type:
Blade
Shaft Length (Putters Only):
Regular
Looks:
The quality of the finish is impeccable (and this goes right down to the quality putter cover as well). The maintenance free black finish gives the putter a sleek and modern appearance. The edges are smoothed out and the milling is fantastic.
Feel:
The putter has a traditional blade look about it with a slightly longer back end which adds a little extra weight to the putter. Having generally played with a putter lighter than this, I would have preferred a slightly larger/thicker grip to increase my stability of using a putter with a heavier head. Having said that, I have never played with a putter where the ball contact is as crisp. Not once, did I get a dead sounded or bobbled putt, and this included a couple of putts which were just off the green on the fringe.
Distance Control:
The distance control on short putts was excellent; I however did struggle a little on the longer putts but I think this was due to the exceptionally quick greens and the fact that I was playing with a slightly heavier putter and did not have sufficient time to get used to the weight. I do feel that given time and practice, this putter would be an excellent addition to the bag and would increase the consistency of my longer putts.
Pros:
- The look of the putter
- The feel when striking the ball
- Slightly heavier head
Cons:
- Grip was a little thin for the weight of the putter
- Little on the pricey side especially for your weekend golfer
Golfer: Damian Murphy
Handicap: 12
Product Type:
Putter
Brand:
Piretti – Cottonwood II
Type:
Blade
Shaft Length (Putters Only):
Regular
Looks:
Again, the finish on Piretti Putters rivals the best I have ever seen in golf. The black finish is slick and greats a great look while standing over the ball. The club looks good in the bag. I didn’t like the white grip on the CottonWood as it gets really dirty after a few rounds.
Feel:
Being a traditional blade, the ball striking off the face is a lot crisper than that off the face of a mallet putter. The striking off the face of the Cottonwood is superb, and the weight of the putter is excellent too. Being a 12 handicapper, my game is hampered by my putting stroke, so I prefer the weight and feel of the Teramo, but the Cottonwood is a great putter for those who revel in the success of a good putting stroke. If putting is a strength in your game, the Cottonwood will only add to that.
Distance Control:
Having used the Teramo first, I found distance control with the Cottonwood a little tough. I felt very in control of my putter, but struggled on the quick greens to find the right balance in my swing with the Cottonwood. This is not necessarily the putters fault, but I wouldn’t recommend the Cottonwood for the novice.
Pros:
Looks great
Nice weight
Great sound off the face
Cons:
Grip colour not ideal
A tad pricey
Not ideal for a novice
