One of the standout features of Muriwai Golf Links is the impeccable condition of the course. Even after heavy rains, thanks to an outstanding natural drainage. As you stand at the clubhouse and take in the magnificent vistas of Auckland’s West Coast, you can clearly see the scaring caused by Cyclone Gabrielle in early 2023 cutting strips of destruction in the picturesque surrounds. But the course itself remains in world class shape. The fairways and greens in superb condition and this ensures that you can enjoy a round of golf without worrying about mud or waterlogged areas, making it a year-round destination for golf enthusiasts.

The Muriwai Golf Links boasts an 18-hole championship layout with several tee-box options, offering a delightful challenge to golfers of all skill levels. The course stretches over 6,467 yards (a shade under 6,000m) off the back tees, but with a ton of tee-box options, the novice and more experienced golfer would find a challenge suited to them on any and every day. With a stroke rating that reflects its fair but challenging layout, golfers can expect an engaging round.

The par for the course is 72, with the standard four-four-ten split of par-3s, par-5s, and par-4s respectively. The course is very playable in fair conditions and would offer most golfers a chance to shoot close to, or better than their handicap on a mild day, but I expect that when the wind does pick up, as is the case with most links’ courses around the world, the Muriwai Golf Links might show its teeth, making it a well-rounded golfing experience.

There are so many stand out holes, it’s tough to pick just one or two as our favourites, but the difficult par-4 18th and the picture-postcard par-3 8th hole would be worth a mention if we absolutely had to choose some.
