The Country Club of Johannesburg is situated in Woodmead, North of Johannesburg and is rated as one of the best country clubs in the country. Offering two beautiful championship golf courses and home to the Sunshine Tour’s Telkom PGA Championship, the Country Club of Johannesburg offers a true and balanced test of golf.
The Tour visited the Rocklands Course for the 9th round of the SOS, and with scoring being quiet high, it is plain to see that the course plays just about on par with handicap. The course is fairly long, but undulation and strategic bunker placements make the Rocklands Course a real thinkers course.

Front 9:
3rd Hole
A gorgeous and scenic downhill par 5 plays as the easiest hole on course according to the stroke system. The dogleg right hole sets up with a difficult drive guarded by three moderately deep bunkers which entice the brave to take them on. An accurate drive will mean a shortish downhill second to a well bunkered and slopey green. Choosing to lay up off the tee will mean the green can easily be reached in three safe shots and par is well within everyone’s reach. The brave can almost guarantee themselves birdie, but the hole has panoramic views of Johannesburg, bunkers in all the right places and it rewards both the brave and sensible golfers alike.
Back 9:
14th Hole
This short par 4 plays tricks on the eyes. It is downhill, short and has bunkers placed in spots that will gobble up a driver, 3 wood and hybrid off the tee. Those brave enough to take a driver off the box bring the green-side lake into play, but also leave themselves no more than a flop shot in if they keep on the grass. Using a hybrid or a wood off the tee takes the water out of play, but then leaves a tricky second in to the green over the lake and a large bunker guarding a green that slopes from the back into that front bunker.
