Gauteng Golf Courses
South Africa’s richest province, Gauteng is not regarded as a tourism hotspot. Yet despite the lack of interest in Gauteng from foreign travelers, the province offers up some of the very best golfing experiences the country has to offer. The Cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria have some of the finest courses anywhere in the country. The Gauteng Golf Association is alive and well and the province produces some of the finest young golfers the country has to offer. Gauteng golf courses are mostly parklands styled courses, heavily lined with trees. They are almost all old and well established.
Gauteng golf courses have seen an evolution over the last 20 years, with several golf estates popping up all over the province. The estates have more often than not, moved away from the typical park land course, and thrown up a multitude of spectacular courses that range from links-style courses link Ebotse and Serengeti, to unique estates like Blair Athol and Eagle Canyon.
Golf in Gauteng took a huge boost when The City of Johannesburg hosted the Joburg Open and the Royal Johannesburg and Kensignton Golf Club. This European Tour co-sanctioned event is one of the richest in Africa and draws some of the biggest names every year. The Els Club at Copperleaf hosts another European Tour event, the Tshwane Open and for the last couple of years Glendower has hosted the South African Open.
Golf in South Africa is alive and well and golf in Gauteng is even stronger that its ever been before. Some of the more popular Gauteng golf courses include:
