SOS Round 1: The Dallas Challenge:

The New SOS Logo and Shirt Colour

The first round of the Sultans of Swing Golf Tour, now affectionately known as the Dallas Challenge, has recently come to an end and it was a whopping success. The Glenvista Country Club hosted us on what was a very rainy Sunday afternoon in the south of Johannesburg. Despite all the rain, the golf course itself was in fantastic condition and I doubt a single player had a bad time out on the course. As it has been said before, a bad game of golf is better than a good day of work.

In the run up the Tour’s first round, the players were shooting some ridiculously low rounds, so it was surprising that the winner/winners came in with a score of only 36 points. Glenvista is a par 72 course that is rated at 70, meaning it is not as difficult as the par would suggest. Dwain Margro, Ryan Bernberg and Michael Moolman all came home with the 36 points, but it was decided that a count out of the back nine would settle the final places and in the end it was Dwain Margro who emerged as the Dallas Challenge winner.

With the implementation of some interesting new rules in 2013, the fines enjoyed by everyone had increased quite considerably. There were 13 out of bounds hit and a massive 18 lady’s tee fines to be had. An out of bounds off the tee box now counts as not passing the ladies tee as you have to reload on the box, but as it can clearly be seen, there were plenty of lady’s tee fines gotten on their own, plus one senior’s tee for the Ax Man. In 2012 the ‘Lord of the Rings’ fine was awarded to anyone who got more than 4 rings on the course, this year that fine became the Fellowship of the Rings, with Lord of the rings being awarded to the fellow with the most rings on their scorecard. And the Tour’s first wearer of the Gandalf hat is Trevor Rebello.

All in all a great time was had; thanks again to the Pocket Caddi team for booking us a round, and for the Keg & Beagle for hosting us for the fines meeting. Next we are off to Roodepoort for Round 2. Follow us on Twiiter @sosgolftour or like us on Facebook (SOS Golf Tour) to keep up to date with all the happenings. Good golfing guys.
